What Does Ceramic Coating Cost?
Why coating quotes vary so widely, and what you are actually paying for.
Ceramic coating quotes range enormously, and the reason is almost always prep. The coating product itself is a small part of the cost; the labor to prepare the paint is most of it.
Understanding that makes it much easier to compare two very different quotes.
Prep is the cost driver
A coating locks in the paint's current condition. If the finish needs multi-step correction first, that alone can be one to two days of labor. A near-new car needing only decontamination and a light polish costs far less.
Vehicle size
More panels, more hours. A large SUV or truck takes considerably longer to correct and coat than a compact car.
Coating tier
Products vary in durability, from roughly two years to five or more. Longer-lasting coatings cost more and often require more precise application conditions.
What a cheap coating usually means
A very low quote almost always means minimal prep. That produces a shiny car for a month and a sealed-in swirl pattern for years.
What this includes
- Prep and correction drive most of the price
- Larger vehicles cost proportionally more
- Durability tiers change product cost
- Wheels, glass and trim coatings are usually add-ons
- Very cheap quotes generally skip correction
Frequently asked questions
Can I skip correction to save money?
You can, but the coating will preserve the existing defects for its full lifespan.
Is coating cheaper than repeated waxing?
Over several years, often yes, when you count labor and product for repeated applications.
Do coatings come with a warranty?
Some products do, usually conditional on documented maintenance washing.
