How Often Should You Detail a Car in Florida?

Frequency recommendations based on how and where your car lives.

Florida is harder on vehicles than most of the country. Year-round UV, high humidity, heavy rain, salt air near the coast and constant organic debris all shorten the interval between services.

The right frequency depends less on mileage than on where the car parks.

Garage-kept vehicles

A full detail once or twice a year plus monthly washes is usually enough. Protection lasts noticeably longer without direct UV exposure.

Driveway or outdoor lot

Two to three full details a year and a wash every two weeks. Protection should be refreshed every few months, or use a coating to extend that window.

Parked under trees

Add decontamination more often. Sap and honeydew bond quickly and etch if left, so removal every few weeks matters more than the full detail schedule.

Coastal parking

Weekly to biweekly washing to remove salt film, plus quarterly protection at minimum. This is the most demanding scenario in Northeast Florida.

What this includes

  • Garage: 1 to 2 full details per year
  • Outdoor driveway: 2 to 3 per year
  • Under trees: more frequent decontamination
  • Coastal: wash every 1 to 2 weeks
  • Interior frequency depends on passengers, not weather

Frequently asked questions

Does more frequent washing damage paint?

Not when done correctly. Improper washing damages paint, not frequency.

Is a coating a substitute for washing?

No. It makes washing easier and less frequent, but a coated car still needs regular cleaning.

What about interior frequency?

That depends on kids, pets and beach trips more than the weather.
