How to Maintain a Ceramic Coated Car

The maintenance routine that gets you years instead of months.

A ceramic coating is not maintenance-free. It is maintenance-easier. The vehicles that get five years out of a coating are the ones that get washed properly every couple of weeks.

The vehicles that get two years are the ones that never get washed, or go through brush tunnels.

Wash routine

pH-neutral soap, clean media, two buckets, and a rinse before any contact. Every two weeks is a good target in Jacksonville, more often near the coast.

Drying matters more than you think

Local water leaves mineral deposits. Air drying a coated car in the sun is the fastest way to put water spots on top of your coating. Dry with clean towels or filtered air.

Avoid these

Brush tunnel washes, wax-injecting drive-throughs, harsh degreasers on paint, and abrasive polishes. All either mar or degrade the coating.

Periodic maintenance service

Once or twice a year, a decontamination wash and a coating-safe topper restore beading and slickness. It is a short appointment with a big effect.

What this includes

  • pH-neutral soap only
  • Wash every two weeks, weekly near the coast
  • Always dry, never let water evaporate
  • No brush tunnels, ever
  • Annual maintenance decontamination and topper

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a touchless wash?

Occasionally yes, though the strong chemicals used can shorten coating life over time.

How do I know the coating is still working?

Watch the water behavior. Strong beading means it is fine; flat sheeting means it needs attention.

Do I still need to wax?

No. Use a coating-specific topper instead if you want to boost performance.
